Galle Face EsplanadeRunning along the sea front south of Fort, the grassy sweep of Galle Face Green is one of the city's few open public spaces, bounded to the north by the modern towers of Fort and to the south by the sprawling façade of the Galle Face hotel. A right turn along the path leading to the sea front promenade it is here that one could make a pleasant salty stroll, with the waves crashing a few feet below and breezy views along the coast and out to sea, where lines of gargantuan tankers and container ships line up waiting to enter the harbour.
Late in the day is the best time to visit Galle Face, when the sun starts to set and the shade disintegrates over the esplanade. The greens start to fill in with those seeking a break from the activities of daily life; people walk about enjoy the view of the sea or flies kites and eats the curious looking snacks served up by the line of hawkers stretched out along the sea front. One could stroll along the pier and walk inward to the sea for a closer view of the waves and the line of ships.
