Currency
The currency used in Sri Lanka is the Sri Lankan Rupee - which is made up of 100 cents. Presently both coins and notes are used in the country; there are coins in the value of 10, 25 and 50 cents as well as 1, 2, 5 and 10 rupees, while the value of notes will vary from 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 Rupees.

Travellers Cheques
Travellers cheques are accepted at most banks, money exchangers; banks will generally charge a transaction fee of 1 - 2 percent. You may directly pay with your Travellers cheques at all hotels of the John Keells Hotels Group.

Exchanging Money
Visitors to the country could change dollars or any other major currency at any bank or certified money exchangers. Banks are located island wide; money exchangers are also present in most of the cities that attract tourists. The facility is also available at all hotels of the John Keells Hotels Group.

Credit Cards
Credit cards are accepted in every international class hotels as well as many shopping malls and stores. However do not plan on using credit cards to pay the entrance fees to many of the tourist attractions such as Minneriya national and for purchases made at roadside boutiques, or the average mom-n-pop shops that line the way sides, even in Colombo. Visa and American Express are the most commonly used and accepted credit cards in Sri Lanka, while Master and Diners Club cards are also accepted.

ATM
ATM's can be found easily in the City of Colombo and its suburbs; in out station areas however, ATM's are limited to the major town. Visa, Cirrus, Maestro and Master Card are all accepted.
